It is with deep sadness that I report today, February 20, 2020, that The Hope of Survivors–Australia will be closing down. Due to the resignations of our leaders (necessitated by family and employment situations), and the inability to find anyone qualified or able and willing to take on the leadership roles of THOS-AU, we have no choice but to shut the organization down after 14 years.
We will not cease to support victims in Australia; we simply will cease to have a nonprofit corporation there.
I am deeply grateful for Coralie who accepted God’s call and my pleading to begin THOS-AU 14 years ago. She has been a great advocate for victims. When she encouraged her sister Arlagene to join, we gained a licensed counselor for victims and someone who led the charge in raising awareness about THOS-AU. Thanks to Arlagene, we conducted multiple seminars (both for victims and for clergy), TV and radio interviews, and much more.
Arriving in Australia, I will never forget the day the three of us prayed about how we could register THOS-AU as a nonprofit organization. None of us had the time or expertise to do it ourselves, and none of us had the funds to hire someone to do it. We sought God’s will and left it up to Him to work it out as He saw best.
The next day, after we had presented a seminar to clergy and church leaders of all denominations, Darren Tappouras, a CPA, spoke to Coralie and Arlagene and offered to incorporate THOS-AU free of charge. He did so and has maintained our corporate status ever since, never charging us a dime for anything.
To Darren, Arlagene and Coralie:
I am so grateful and deeply indebted to each of you for all you have done to make THOS-AU successful in helping victims heal and in educating clergy. May God bless each of you in every way!
Friends, I also want to thank you very much for your ongoing prayers and support. The Hope of Survivors was established by God in 2002, and He has used YOU to equip and enable all of us to be a blessing and encouragement to victims around the world. THANK YOU!
God bless you,
Samantha Nelson
