Dear Friends,

We’ve just celebrated another Independence Day and yet it seems as though we are losing freedoms of every type daily. Thinking about our freedom led me to contemplate how victims of clergy sexual abuse feel as though they are bound and without any freedom. There’s no freedom to escape the abuse, no freedom to be safe, no freedom to worship God without the cognitive dissonance that occurs when a spiritual leader abuses someone and yet remains in the pulpit supposedly preaching the Word of God to those in the congregation. How does one’s mind reconcile the abusive–sometimes even violent–spiritual leader with the “godly” looking man behind the pulpit? And, if you think it’s difficult for the victim to see beyond this charade even while she’s being abused, imagine how much more difficult it is for the unknowing congregant in the pew to comprehend their beloved pastor doing something so heinous? Clergy sexual abuse is bondage–spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Thankfully, we have a way out! Victims can be set free and can heal. John 8:32 tells us, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” God raised up The Hope of Survivors nearly two decades ago in order to reach victims with His truth so they can be free from clergy sexual abuse. Today, if you’re struggling with blaming yourself for the abuse, I’d encourage you to read Dr. Martin Weber’s article, It Wasn’t Your Fault.

You will also be greatly encouraged by Raquel’s story and Kia’s experience with People You’ll Encounter. God wants to set you free. He wants to heal you. He wants to undo the emotional and spiritual damage that was done to you when that spiritual leader betrayed his sacred trust. Will you let God help you?

While we are all still living in this altered reality due to COVID-19, times are difficult and uncertain and the economy is suffering while many people are being laid off and losing incomes. If, however, you are blessed to still have an income and could partner with us on a monthly basis or even make a one-time donation, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your thoughtful consideration and prayers.

God bless you,
